Unlocking Energy Efficiency: A Key to Sustainable Development in Indonesia
Welcome to the PowerSave Project, a groundbreaking initiative by AVIRAMA Foundation dedicated to fostering a new generation of energy-conscious leaders in Indonesia. In an era where global climate action is paramount and Indonesia’s energy sector rapidly expands, understanding and practicing energy efficiency is no longer an option—it’s a necessity. The PowerSave Project directly addresses this critical need by integrating practical energy education into high school curricula, empowering young minds to drive a cleaner, more sustainable future.
What is the PowerSave Project?
The PowerSave Project is an interactive and experimentally driven educational module specifically designed for high school students. Our program goes beyond theoretical concepts, focusing on tangible actions and real-world applications of energy efficiency principles. We aim to bridge the existing gap in environmental education by providing students with the skills and knowledge to actively participate in Indonesia’s just energy transition.
Why is Energy Efficiency Crucial for Indonesia?
Indonesia faces increasing energy demand, making energy efficiency a cornerstone of its climate targets and sustainable development goals. Reducing energy consumption not only lessens our carbon footprint but also leads to significant economic benefits and enhanced energy security. By empowering youth with practical energy management skills, the PowerSave Project ensures that future generations are equipped to make informed decisions that impact their homes, schools, and the nation’s energy landscape. Our focus on youth empowerment creates ripple effects, fostering a culture of responsibility that extends beyond the classroom.
How PowerSave Project Transforms Learning: Our Unique Methodology
Our innovative module employs a project-based learning approach, delivered through three core, engaging components:
Interactive Energy Efficiency Sessions: Students gain a foundational understanding of the importance of energy efficiency for energy transition and climate action. This includes differentiating energy efficiency from conservation, exploring economic benefits, and understanding practical examples of energy use and waste.
Hands-on Learning: Students directly engage with simple energy monitoring devices (Power Meters) to measure electricity consumption. Activities like appliance energy audits, “vampire power” hunts, and lighting efficiency comparisons provide practical experience in understanding real-world energy use.
Collaborative Group Projects: Utilizing a Problem-Solution-Impact Framework, students identify specific energy waste problems within their environment (e.g., homes or schools), propose practical solutions, and estimate the potential energy and money saved. This fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving.
Our Commitment to Impact and Expansion
Initially piloted at SMA N Bali Mandara, the PowerSave Project continuously refines its module based on evaluation results. We are actively working to expand our reach to additional high schools, ensuring more Indonesian students benefit from this vital education. Furthermore, we are initiating a student ambassador mechanism to cultivate peer-to-peer learning and amplify the message of sustainable energy practices across wider communities.
